About the Board

The Land Surveyors Board is responsible for matters relating to the licensing and professional regulation of land surveyors in the Cayman Islands. The Board supports professional standards, accountability, and confidence in the land surveying profession as is stated in the Land Surveyors law (1996 Revision) Part II.
The Board is appointed by the Governor in Council and includes the Chief Surveyor as well as two appointed members. Its work is also supported by a secretary, who has also been appointed by the Governor. A member of the legal department may be co-opted from time to time to deliberate on legal matters.

• Maintaining the register of Licensed Land Surveyors
• Overseeing professional standards and conduct
• Considering matters relating to licensing requirements and qualifications
• Receiving and considering complaints about professional conduct
• Take disciplinary proceedings against licensed surveyors

Board Members

The Land Surveyors Board is made up of individuals who support the regulation of the land surveying profession in the Cayman Islands. Together, they provide leadership, oversight, and professional guidance on matters relating to licensing, standards, and professional conduct. The Board is chaired by the Chief Surveyor and supported by a secretary, together with two appointed Board Members.

How to Obtain a License

If you wish to practice as a land surveyor in the Cayman Islands, you must first satisfy the applicable licensing requirements.
The Board considers applications from individuals who meet the relevant legal and professional requirements. Information on eligibility, application steps supporting documents, and applicable fees can be found on our Licensed Land Surveyor's Page.

How to Apply;

• 1. Review the eligibility requirements
• 2. Write to the Chief Surveyor
• 3. Submit the required qualifications and supporting documents
• 4. Provide any additional information requested
• 5. Pay the applicable fee

Applicants should ensure that all information provided is complete and accurate. Additionally the register allows members of the public to confirm whether a person is licensed to practice as a Land Surveyor in the Cayman Islands. Individuals are encouraged to confirm a surveyor’s status before engaging professional services. You may refer to the list of All Licensed Land Surveyors.

Submitting a Complaint

If you have concerns about the professional conduct of a licensed land surveyor, you may submit a complaint to the Board.
The Board may consider complaints that relate to the professional conduct of a licensed land surveyor. Complaints should be made in writing and should include enough information and supporting material to allow the matter to be properly understood and assessed.

Please include;

• 1. Your full name and contact details
• 2. The name of the Surveyor
• 3. A clear description of the conduct complained of
• 4. Relevant dates
• 5. Copies of any supporting correspondence or documents; and
• 6. The outcome you are seeking

Before making a complaint, please check the register to confirm that the person is a licensed land surveyor.
The Board seeks to handle complaints fairly, consistently, and in accordance with applicable legal framework.

How Complaints are Handled

• 1. Complaint Received: A written complaint is submitted together with any supporting information
• 2. Initial Review: The complaint is reviewed to determine whether it relates to professional conduct and whether sufficient information has been provided
• 3. Request for Further Information: If necessary, further information may be requested from the complainant
• 4. Notice to the Surveyor: Where appropriate, the surveyor will be informed of the complaint and given an opportunity to respond
• 5. Consideration by the Board: The Board considers the complaint and any response received and decides what action should be taken
• 6. Outcome: The Complainant will be advised of the outcome of the matter, subject to any legal or confidentiality limitations
